Kata

Karate "kata" or "form" are various techniques of defense and counter-attacks performed in a pre-determined moves one after the other. There are many katas as there are variations of each in the karate repertoire.

Theoretically, the kata represents the techniques you would use when fighting two, three or even four or five opponents at a time.

Karate katas are done alone. Continued practice will enable you to move gracefully with speed and unleash the concentrated power of your body in one sudden burst of energy.

an experienced karateka makes the kata come "alive" -- like an artistic dance performed with deep feeling.
